Director’s Brief Instruction Sheet
Running the Game with BridgePad

 (Provided by Franklin Gonzalez)

A)    NEW GAME SET UP

1.     Prior to starting a new game, be sure that you DO close the BridgePad window and software. All the BP units should be displaying the initial screen. Use XX and PWR keys to reset units to this state.

2.     Start ACBLscore for Windows. Go to setup, choose Club or Tournament Mode and desired game options. Make sure to select Allow Remote Entry.

3.     Setup a Section or multiple sections with Remote enabled for each section using F11

4.     Press F11 again and select Locate Remote Server, then Start Remote Server. At this point reset any options on the BridgePad server (go to game options in our program) such as intermediate scores, hand records, etc. These options are the same for all sections. Any changes on options need to be made BEFORE any BP unit is turned on.

5.     To enable collection of ACBL member’s number need to enable it in ACBLscore with F11 under Remote Options.

6.     BP units can now be initialized in all tables and scores send to server. If the number of tables or the movement need to be changed during the 1st round, use the SET command in ACBLscore to modify the number of Tables and/or the movement parameters. The new movement information will now be automatically sent to the BP units after the next score is sent to the server.

7.     If  EW security code is enabled, each EW pair will be asked to enter any two digits (but 00) during the initialization period. If one pair forgets this number it can be found on our software under Files> Security Codes. Or they can use the default override code, 99.

8.     Results can be posted to ACBLscore at any time by pressing CTRL-P while in the ACBLscore window. CTRL-P must be pressed TWO TIMES after the final round to ensure all results are posted.

B)    TROUBLESHOOTING/WARNINGS DURING GAME IN PROGRESS

1.     Mistakes entering data can be corrected using the BACK key (while in the same screen) or ERROR key at the end of the  round before hitting NEXT to send results. This allows correction of board contracts, if discovered by any player at this point. Once the final results of the round are sent to the server by hitting NEXT, any corrections need to be made in ACBLscore manually.

2.     If, during the game, for whatever reason, the server program or individual BP units, ACBLscore software breaks down or is terminated by mistake, operating system crash, loss of power, etc, DO NOT PANIC. The game can be restored to the last state, and all previous data recovered, including movement information. To do this close our server software and issue the Restart Remote Server command from ACBLscore. DO NOT issue the Start Remote Server command, as this will erase all the scores.

3.     If any BP unit batteries fail during the game, they can be replaced without any loss of data.

4.     If BP units get damage or stop working completely for any reason, they can be easily replaced with a new unit by initializing it as the lost unit using the “REPLACE FAILED UNIT” protocol (i.e., same table and section number). The previous data and movement information is sent to the new unit at the point in time it got broken. SEE # (2)  BELOW

5.     Do not run any computationally intensive application (like DealMaster, or an Internet browser) on the scoring computer during the game. Partial scores may be lost.

6.     DO NOT CLOSE the BridgePad window, ACBLink program or ACBLscore during the game.

C)    GENERAL INFORMATION

1.     When using multiple RF servers/computers in the same or adjacent room, each RF server and its corresponding BP units MUST be set to a different channel.

2.     To change Channel/ BAUD rate/ Replace Failed unit/ Screen time, send upgrades to BP units, press BACK / Q of D / K of H / NEXT. Once all BP units are ready to receive updates, do it within 2 minutes.  8 BP units can be upgraded at a time.
